About Me
My name is Leya, and I'm the proud owner and operator of Hillside Swim School. After a successful first year of business, I'm excited to be back at it in 2026! I will continue to provide high quality swim education in a safe, supportive, and fun environment out of my backyard swimming pool. Once again, I will be teaching the Lifesaving Society's SWIM TO SURVIVE progressive curriculum, and welcome swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
I am a first year student at Queen's University, and am laser focused on pursuing studies in Kinesiology and Health Science. I hope to one day work in a medical capacity. I am Emergency and Standard First Aid certified, and am both a National Life Guard and Life Saving Society Swim Instructor. Swim leadership seems to synthesize my interest in kinesthetic and body mechanics with my propensity for pre-med and first aid understanding.
In addition to my experience as a swim instructor, I have spent over five years teaching dancing at a local studio. This opportunity informed my commitment to working with, supporting, and teaching learners of all ages and abilities. I recognize the importance of prioritizing students' individual needs, and am dedicated to supporting my swimmers to meet their goals.
My siblings and I learned to swim from private lessons in a backyard pool, so I can appreciate the student success afforded by that one-on-one structure. My parents started us in group lessons at our public pool, but quickly became discouraged by our lack of progress and individual support - we spent much of our time shivering at the side of the pool waiting for our turn with the instructor. My goal with Hillside Swim School is to re-write that script.
Swim safety is an important life skill, and I'm thrilled to be able to unlock that water confidence with your swimmer in a fun and engaging way!
